Why I Do What I Do
Dear Friend and Fellow Explorer,
Welcome to Mindplorer! I’m Larry Lim, a Life Coach, Youth Mindfulness Teacher, and Learning Facilitator. My passion for helping others live fulfilling lives comes from a deeply personal place.
As a child, I faced moments of social isolation that left a lasting impact on my self-confidence and shaped how I saw myself. That feeling of inadequacy stayed with me for a long time, influencing my interactions and relationships.
Years later, as a caregiver to a schizophrenic patient, I found myself questioning what it truly means to be in control of our thoughts and emotions. This experience challenged me in unexpected ways and opened my eyes to the importance of mental health. I started asking: What can we do to safeguard our mental well-being, not just when a crisis hits, but as a preventive measure?
These experiences pushed me to seek out practices that would help me heal and grow. Through Self-Compassion and Mindfulness, I began transforming my internal landscape and found a path forward. It wasn’t easy, but these practices helped me reconnect with myself, and I became passionate about sharing them with others.
When I became a parent, I developed a strong desire to support youths in cultivating the emotional intelligence and resilience that schools often overlook. I realized that the better I can take care of my own well-being amidst the multiple responsibilities I hold as a working parent, the better I can support my children.
In my past role as a supervisor, I witnessed how individuals are often promoted to leadership roles without the necessary training or support. This lack of preparation can lead to stress and setbacks, which made me wonder how we can better support these individuals.
My journey eventually led me to coaching, which felt like the perfect way to bring everything together—supporting others to overcome their challenges and thrive.
